Jamie’s Smiles Endowment Fund was established in memory of little Jameson Allen Bates, who was born with Down Syndrome and died just 19 months later as a result of Lennoux-Gastaut Syndrome, a condition characterized by numerous and uncontrollable seizure activity. This fund awards yearly grants to the Macomb Intermediate School District – Macomb Infant Pre-school Program (MISD-MIPPS) to help other special needs children.

Jamie’s Smiles mission is to supply supplemental funding to outstanding programs that benefit children with special needs through grants and other financial means. As of November 1, 2009, we have given away over $23,800 in grants and donations to such programs. This money has gone to programs to purchase positioning seats, feeding trays, communication equipmentMoon_walk_and_swing_pics_001_-_Nader_Grant, books, toys and indoor playground equipment designed especially for special needs children to encourage sensory input, appropriate movement and physical activity. It is ourgoal is to add a third grant, to make all grants perpetual and permanent and to expand the general public’s understanding and appreciation of children with special needs. The programs we have supported thus far through grants assist over 1,000 children with special needs, age birth to 26, or approximately one in every seven children in the Macomb County School System.
